Perenaud

Perenaud, a new book series by Adam Farouk. Setting sail from relatively familiar waters: Boston, Massachusetts and London, England, it tells the story of struggling children’s book author Angela Youngblood, who finds herself mysteriously transported to the very place she has been writing about her entire life, a land known as Faerworld. The events in Faerworld spawn myths and fables of Earth, but beyond this magical horizon looms a war that threatens both world's total destruction. To find her way home, Angela must confront and defeat those engineering the coming conflict, an organization known to all as RHUMER. To succeed, she must overcome her greatest fears, face her true self, and survive the adventure of a lifetime.

Characters:

EERTHWORLD (EARTH)

Angela Youngblood - the story’s protagonist. As a child, Angela was traumatized by witnessing her mother's murder, although the killers’ weaponry left no trace of her mother’s body. Twenty years later, Angela is struggling to find herself. Stuck in a dead-end adjunct position in a hostile academic environment, she considers herself a failure since what she really wants to do is write children’s stories. Obsessed with symbols she has seen in her sleep since her mother’s untimely death, Angela finds herself questioning her sanity until a simple journal, given to her by her mother on the day she was born, reveals its magical essence and transports her to a world beyond her wildest dreams.

Jesse Youngblood - An avid gamer working a low-paying night security job at the British Museum, Jesse is Angela’s younger brother. Although they live in different time zones, the two siblings share a close relationship strengthened by losing their mother so young and the mysteries surrounding the father they’ve never met, a man their mother seldom spoke of and about whom they know nothing. Although Jesse is often accused of being a man-child who refuses to grow up, he is unquestioningly loyal to Angela, trusts her completely, and believes in her, and her dreams.

Nicholas Ewart-Perks - The editor-in-chief at Pennington Rice Publishing and a former writer, Nick, empathizes with Angela’s frustrations at the board’s insistence that fantasy and fairy tales are out and science and superheroes are in. But her believes in her talents enough that he’s willing to meet her halfway: can she write a story about both? Angela hopes for divine inspiration, not knowing that the answers she seeks have been with her all along.

Grelot LeFay - As the head of the Foxton Rare Book Collection at London’s New Royal Lancaster Museum, Grelot is eager to emerge from the shadow of his famous sister, Chloë. When he hears rumors of an especially worthwhile find near Boston, Massachusetts, he races his sister to acquire it first—and she’s not at all pleased.

Chloë LeFay - The head of acquisitions at the New Royal Lancaster Museum, Chlöe is famed for her ability to nose out rare and valuable objects and snap them up for the Lancaster’s burgeoning collections before the competition; her brilliant finds have made the Lancaster the consummate showcase it has become. She is sharp-eyed, quick-witted, and not to be trifled with.

FAERWORLD

Sexton Crowe - This god-king of the Sayatu people of Tuweni in Faerworld serves as the Tuweni’s Primi Ordis, a powerful role with great influence and responsibilities—including decisions about waging war. Sexton’s superpowers give him the strength of a hundred men and the ability to fly. However, his mercurial temper means he can flash from quietly contemplative to thunderous and cocksure when provoked. His few friends include a mysterious young woman named “Agent T” and his valet, Steamer.

Lili’akea - This erudite and sagacious leader of the Chand’allai people of Tuweni in Faerworld, the Lady Chancellor of Tuweni, is a critical source (some might say the only source) of balance within the Tuweni government. Traditionally, the Chand’allai and the Sayatu have been locked in perpetual war for generations. Now, forced to work together, it is unclear whether they can stifle old animosities long enough to join forces to ensure Tuweni's future is a bright one.

Ergaster Loughlin - Formerly a colonel in the ancient order of wandering vigilantes known as the Coleriders, Ergaster has been classified as a perennial enemy combatant and imprisoned indefinitely. He once lost a decisive battle—and many of his fighters—during a brief war with Sexton Crowe and his Sayatu forces. When he refused to disband his disgraced unit, Crowe cut off the colonel’s hand and fed it to his pet dynuchi, giant amphibious reptiles said to be related to the tiberons of old.

“These destinies are linked. Can’t you see? We are bound: united.”
