Skyfarer

Another book series by Adam Farouk, Skyfarer is the thrilling follow-up series to Daughters of Time, picking up the adventures of Faerworld’s inhabitants—this time, half a world away on the continent of Constantia. The principality of West Garnet has seen better days. Struggling financially and beset by interspecies animosity, it is hardly the ideal place for an aspiring advocate like Atticus Coleman, a “shunter” or mechanical man. His people were previously servants to the ruling class, and they are still fighting for recognition as full members of the citizenry. But when the ancient magic of a mysterious recluse from long ago is unlocked, Atticus finds he may have the secret to uniting the people of Constantia and lifting them out of the darkness once and for all.

Characters:

Atticus Coleman - The story’s protagonist, Atticus, is a “shunter,” a race of mechanical men created by the region’s ruling classes to serve as manual labor. As a “Copperman,” an older model, he’s been relegated to working at the town scrap heap. However, he spends his free time studying in the hopes that one day he can gain admission to the great University of Constantia and achieve his dream of becoming an advocate who fights for the rights of his people.

Kori Miyamoto - The daughter of the Grand Doge of the town, Kori is a talented gyro-acrobat who’s lived through a furious regimen of training and performance since childhood, when her parents discovered her unusually high tolerance to g-forces. Along the path to her fifty-plus medals, she’s broken her legs as many times, and the doctors have warned her that one more break could mean she will never walk again. Yet still she perseveres.

Jarvis McNeal - A young elite who spends his days feasting on a diet of fast cars, loud noise, and the high life, Jarvis considers shunters wholly beneath him. He leads his gang, the “hiflyers,” in making sure that Atticus and his ilk remember their place in society: at the bottom.

Francisca “Frankie” Delaray - Known to all as the sweet, modest, well-meaning server at the popular “Patti’s Place,” Frankie is lauded as a waitressing prodigy with perfect memory and impossibly quick reflexes. She’s also caught Jarvis’s eye. Sadly, his only way of showing it is by acting the jerk—an act he’s perfected.

Scooter von Strauss - A sickly young man whose family has taken Atticus into their home to escape his makeshift digs at the scrap heap, Scooter is intelligent, kind, and one of the few aminoans (humanlike residents of Faerworld) to encourage Atticus on his journey to law school.

Lon Coleman - Atticus’s cousin and a taxi-trike driver in town, Lon, is everything Atticus isn’t—friendly, straightforward, extroverted, and content with his lot. The only thing Lon wants more of is speed; when off-duty, he loves nothing more than racing his trike down empty streets for the pure thrill of the ride.

Camden Lloyd - Some believe this reclusive billionaire inventor who lived in town long ago was one of its founders. His manor has been closed to the public for over a century. But legend has it that the palatial structure will soon open and reveal its secrets to the world, whatever they may be.

“Touch the sky. Unite a nation.”
